In September 2021, Huazhi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center jointly completed a paper entitled "Comparative Evaluation of Resistance, Yield and Main Agronomic Characters of Chaoyou Qianhao before and after the targeted improvement" published in the journal "Hybrid Rice" In this paper, combined with the conventional backcross breeding method and the high-throughput genome-wide molecular marker-assisted selection technology, the directional improvement of bacterial blight and rice blast resistance was carried out on the male parent R900 of Chaoyouqian. In less than 2 years, an improved R900 line with a high genetic background recovery rate (>95%) and homozygous resistance target gene was obtained, and the improved Chaoyouqian hybrid combination was obtained by matching. In 2019, the multi-site comparison test of Chaoyou Qianhao before and after improvement showed that the yield of Chaoyou Qianhao before and after improvement was similar, and the main agronomic traits were similar. Resistance identification showed that the resistance to rice blast and bacterial blight of the improved R900 and Chaoyouqian were significantly improved compared with those before the improvement.

 

Through the practice of directional improvement of Chaoyouqian, it has been successfully verified that the use of genome-wide molecular marker-assisted breeding technology can achieve rapid directional improvement of resistance on the basis of maintaining the super-high yield potential and main agronomic traits of the original variety.
